Nothing of this should matter to the protagonist though, since he has no involvement with either Rhyme or Rib…but mysterious messages and people are about to enter his life and dramatically turn it upside down. The visual novel begins with rumors about people being forcefully driven into Rhyme matches and the resurgence of the legendary Morphin, a notorious Rib team that vanished years ago. Rib, on the other hand, is slowly falling out of fashion. Rhyme consists of virtual battles where the gamer’s conscience manifests itself online commanding an avatar to attack, while Rib is actual hand to hand, old-fashioned thug war (Rhyme is futuristic pokemon and Rib is a gang dispute, basically). The rising popularity of Rhyme made Toue inc acquire it’s rights, making it even more famous and regulating what once was a lawless game. There are two games trending in the old district of Midorijima: Rhyme and Rib. The cool rich kids hang in Platinum Jail and the poor protagonist kids hang in the old district, the area outside the pretty shiny gates. The island’s geographical division is basically this:
